In the bottom of a page there is a space to add "What did you change?" which shows in comments when using the "change history" macro.
If you made a mistake when typing the change comment, how do you edit that comment?
you can't. There's an open Suggestion for that:

After 5 years it has not been implemented.
The product manager plainly answers they have no plans.

Because it is too big now and pretty much monopoly, they behave accordingly.

Atlassian's responses to suggestions from the community are - to put it politely - reluctant. There are so many open issues for functions that people requested and voted for. If you just look at all the problems that come with the New Editing Experience which doe not support quite a number of functions the legacy editor did... oh boy.
So, no big surprise there's not been any news on this topic here.
