How do I auto-number my figures, tables, and equations so that they auto-update?

I need to auto-number my figures, tables, and equations so that they auto-update when a new one is added. The numbering itself needs to update, as well as anywhere the figure/table/equation is linked within the text.

Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance for any help!

@Jennifer Dilts this is only a partial solution but a numbered headings app from the Atlassian Marketplace can help.

Our app Numbered Headings by Easy Apps auto updates whenever you reload a page. There are other apps that do similar, some don't auto update.

I don't know about equations. Tables, macros from the marketplace and a few other things can have limits.

I suggest that you test two of the apps on the marketplace and see how much they can help. If help enough to consider buying one after the free trial then reach out to the app creator about things that are not working, I know that we are always open to trying to add features based on real world use cases.

Actually, @Jennifer Dilts , the app suggested by @Stavros_Rougas_EasyApps might be your universal solution :) 

Confluence page headings go to 11 6. Now, 5 and 6 are rather awkward.

So what if you use specific heading size to introduce your page elements?

You can set up the TOC macro to only show, say, levels 1-4.

@Stavros_Rougas_EasyApps - does your app have a setting that would apply numbers only to a specific range of headings 5-6?

I know about your app but I don't have in-depth knowledge.

It would still work if you, Jennifer, don't use regular headings on your page...

As I don't know the specifics of @Jennifer Dilts needs I don't want to promise it will necessarily work for all of them. But I do think evaluating two different numbered headings apps is worthwhile. Not only to see if feature and UI differences that matter, but cost differences as might have to make a case internally to purchase an app.
