How do I add many tags to a Confluence Database in bulk?

I am creating a Confluence Database that will have a field named "Product". Field type is "Tag".

I have a notepad file with a list of 100 or so products, each on a new line.

How can I get this list of products created as tags without having to copy+paste one at a time?

Hey @Chris Jacks

Interesting topic!

We're in the early stages of developing a new product that might be relevant to your interests. It's called Panorama, and it offers comprehensive content management for Confluence.

HI @Chris Jacks and welcome to the Community

You can import a CSV to a specific column of the database (three dots menu next to the Database Search field) - click Import and follow the instructions. You just need to copy paste your notepad entries into a spreadsheet (or into a text editor and then convert text to table).

Or you can copy paste a column from a spreadsheet editor into a database column.

HOWEVER... I only got it working with Text, not with Tag. And sadly, conversion doesn't work.

Having said that, there might be a workaround, I found a couple solving different issues, more on that in my article here).

I'm sharing the above hoping that it might take you the right track.

Thanks Kristian

That confirms my findings also. That it cannot be done as tags.

I want to use the type "tag" so that I can add some level of control for consistency.

Thanks for the article post to. I don't think it quite offers a solution for my problem (feel free to correct me if wrong) but there's certainly some other useful use case examples there. Nice one!

Hi!
I started trying out Databases in Confluence a few days ago and it's a bit of a love/hate as I love having everything integrated in our knowledge base, but there are several limitations that have to be worked around..

That being said, in your case you could have a separate database containing all Products, and add an "entry backlink" field connected to such "Product" database to your "New Database"

In this way you would be able to select the product form a controlled list (and also be able to quickly call up info about that product from the database)
The downside is that this doesn't get converted to a "Tag", so there's no color coding nor it could for example be used as the field to drive a Board View from it.

The latter is a limitation that made me just  stumble upon your post, while trying to google for a solution..

I am facing the same issue.. I have a column of 5000 items that I need in tag format to work. Importing CSV to tag does not work, only text. Copying text to tag does not work. I guess I have plenty of manual work to do, will grab a fresh cup of coffee and some nice playlists...
