Our setup requires very tightly controlled user groups which we named to match those we use elsewhere (like Dropbox and Office). So, we don't have a confluence-users group.
When I try to change the landing page under Further Configuration, I get the error below.
Is there any way to change everyone's default landing page without that group?
If this is legitimately hardcoded in, is my best option to re-create that user group and then give it permissions for the page?
Hi @Alyssa Hays
I checked in couple docs to make sure before sending you this answer.
I found the following, even though I am not into changes to the default configuration in Atlassian Tools, however I understand that there will always be exceptions:
Let me know how it goes.

Yes you can change the landing page at the root of Confluence. By either creating a new space accessible to everyone and make it the landing page or select an existing space. The choice is yours.
Click on the cog -> Configuration -> Further Configuration then click on the dropdown to select a space
Let me know if you have any questions.

You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
When I do that, I get the error message I put above because we do not have the confluence-users group.
My question is if there is a way to do it if you don't have that user group.

What is your confluence user group?
did you try to grant that specific group the required permissions to the space?
Confluence is looking for confluence users group that grants everyone access to the application?
What happened to Confluence Users group? Did you remove it?

We have a default user group for employees, called Teammates that does have access to that space.
We have to pay for licenses for many users that should not have access to most pages. The generic confluence-user group ends up actually being a security issue and was removed after each page was updated.
It looks like, instead of coding this landing page feature to the default user group, it was coded to the group NAMED confluence-users.
