How can I tell where my data is stored in relation to GDPR regulations and data processing?

Daniel Middleditch January 9, 2023

I am really keen to use Confluence cloud for all of my IT staff to create internal documentation, but I am unable to find at the moment where the data is stored at rest as my requirements are for all of our company data to be stored in the UK or European data centres?

Thanks

Dan

Hi Daniel,

To view where your product data is hosted:

Go to admin.atlassian.com Select your organization if you have more than one.

Select Security > Data residency.

This will open the data residency page for your organization. This page lists the products in your organization, the location of each product, and the  AWS Region the location corresponds with. If a product is PINNED to a location, its in-scope data is held in place there.

But, remember that you cannot change the location with free plan.

You can learn more about it here: https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/understand-data-residency/

Regards,
Barnali

Hi @Daniel Middleditch

You can check this if you are an Organization Admin - via...

  1. Go to https://admin.atlassian.com/
  2. Select your Organization
  3. Select Security from the top navigation bar
  4. From the left-hand menu, select Data Residency

From here, you can view where your data is currently stored.

---

For the UK/Europe, currently you can select from...

  • EU - Consists of AWS Frankfurt and Dublin regions
  • Germany - Consists of AWS Frankfurt region

...if you on a paid plan (i.e Standard, Premium, or Enterprise)

---

Atlassian are expected to have a UK Data Center in future, see its current position on the Public Roadmap - https://www.atlassian.com/wac/roadmap/cloud/data-residency-in-united-kingdom?search=uk&p=2ed5cb79-4e

For more information on data residency, including in-scope data, see this help page: https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/understand-data-residency/
