How can I archive Confluence content (with spaces, pages, blogs, comments, etc.)?

Richard Kirian June 18, 2021

I need to archive all the Confluence Cloud content that my team created over the past 5 years.  I need to be able to browse the complete content of my spaces, including pages, blogs, and comments.  The comments on blogs are particularly important.

When I export an archive of everything using the backup manager (https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/create-a-site-backup/), I get a giant xml file but I do not have software that can display the data such that the content is browseable.  I'm not sure if comments on blog posts are included in this backup.

There are some tools in the Confluence web interface that allow one to manually export content in html or pdf formats (https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/export-content-to-word-pdf-html-and-xml-139475.html), but none of them allow for the export of blogs and comments.

My team also tried to write code using a Python package (https://atlassian-python-api.readthedocs.io/) and we were able to systematically generate pdf files of all space pages and blogs, but it does not appear that we can export comments.

So here is the general question: what is the best way to archive and view my data after my Cloud subscription expires?  I cannot continue to pay the annual fee.

The most ideal solution would be for the Atlassian folks to create a way to export all of the html files, but with all of the editing scripts removed.  I think this would also be the easiest solution on a technical level, but I could be wrong.

I would appreciate any suggestions.  Thanks.

@Richard Kirian

You will only be able to export comments and blogs in the xml version and you would then have to consume them to be readable using the XSLT.  I would suggest looking at the Atlassian marketplace to see if any of the export apps provide this functionality.
