While testing the upgrade from 3.5.6 to 4.3.1 my entire userbase was spammed with recommended pages to read on the test server. I did not want to notify my users that I am testing an upgrade, or to go view the new UI.
I see there are plugins that can be disabled in the new version which is great, but how do I disable other email settings by default? It seems like a global "Default" profile should be configurable for all options under [username]->Settings.
Many users ask why this is even enabled by default and is a recuring question I would like to head off.
You will have to delete the mails server manually or remove it from DB until a startup parameter can be used to drive it, like it is in JIRA.
You can always remove the reference to the SMTP server, means that Confluence won't be able to send any emails

while that does prevent what caused me to rant (this was the first thing I did post-upgrade but needed to test email so I added it back), it doesn't solve my problem.
