Deleting a parent page doesn't delete children

Lewis Foster November 20, 2012

When I delete a page that has child pages, those pages still exist. Surely this isn't right? If i want to delete an entire section and all sub pages I end up having to constantly delete pages and ensure all children are removed before deleting the parent page.

eg:

testpage

-page 1

-page 2

If i delete testpage, page 1 and page 2 will remain on the system and so people might still be viewing deleted content.

Hi Lewis,

When you are deleting any parent page that has child pages in it, they will be moved to the root of the space and the child pages will not be deleted.

For more tips on this, please take a look at this guide:

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Joachim

Seems like daft functionality to me but fair enough.

It does now in Confluence 6.  You can choose between the old behaviour and delete-sub-pages now.

I cannot confirm that for Confluence Cloud.

In our system (Confluence Cloud 1000.0.0-938d182668b) only the old behaviour is available. (I wonder if MS-DOS, windows, or any other OS would have survived if people had to pay for del /S C:\Path\) :-(

Hi Lewis,

Our Page Tree Eraser plugin does exactly what you are looking for. And it does it in a very save way. The delete page tree gets moved to the Trash Bin Space from where it could be recovered.

Regards,
Stephan
