Hello,
I like to implement the new Database feature in our Confluence.
In my scenario I have a database "Fields" in space "A".
I want to create a new database "Map" in space "B".
This should have a "Entry Link" field which should refer to the database "Fields" in space "A".
But it does not appear into the selection. I have full access to everything.
Does anybody knows a hack to achieve this?
Thanks and best regards
Sascha
No, there is currently no way to achieve this if databases are in two different spaces. This limit in not documented by Atlassian though.
I tinkered around with it for some time to get around this restriction (e.g. creating the dbs in the same space and then move the "target"-db in another one - will move the data already in it, but won't update anymore, so no dynamic/live link), but unfortunately this restriction is not possible to circumvent for now.
Hopefully Atlassian will change this, as this would be a great feature.
Best Regards
Koloman
Hi Koloman,
Thank you for your confirmation. I hope so too.
Best regards
Sascha

Based off your response what i sense is there are limitations within the database feature of your platform

For Space A, Create a page or section in Space A where you display all the information from the 'Fields' database
In Space B, when you set up the 'Map' database, make a field called 'Entry Link'
Instead of directly connecting to the "Fields" database in Space A, link it to the page or section in Space A where the data is shown
Atlast, Ensure that changes which are coming 'Fields' database are also reflected on the page section in Space A.
So that the information linked to from Space B stays current
Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards

Hi @Humashankar VJ ,
thank you very much for your proposal.
Unfortunately I don't see that this will solve the problem.
For Space A, Create a page or section in Space A where you display all the information from the 'Fields' database
I have created a page in space "A" and embedded the Database "Fields". I cannot see any additional commands which would make sense.
In Space B, when you set up the 'Map' database, make a field called 'Entry Link'
Instead of directly connecting to the "Fields" database in Space A, link it to the page or section in Space A where the data is shown
A field of the type "Entry Link" requires a database as a target. I can only select from the dropdown. I cannot paste a link in here.
To refer to a page I have to create a field of the type "Page link". But this does not let me allow to integrate further foreign columns of the Table "fields".
For me it seems like that it's a limitation of the the Database feature.
Thanks and warm regards,
Sascha

I also found this limitation the hard way - as far as I know there is no workaround yet, to get databases' entry links to work, when the databases are in different spaces.
I made a discussion about this and other issues with databases here: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-discussions/Databases-beta-what-s-great-and-what-s-quot-meh-quot/td-p/2635931

Would you prefer manually create a field within the "Map" database in Space B where you can paste the URL of the page or section in Space A where the data is shown.
This field could be a text field where you input the Url. While this won't establish a direct db-to-db link, it would allow you to reference the relevant page or section in Space A from Space B
