Create new page with adding a link

mikeehun June 14, 2021

How can add a link to a page which doesn't yet exist? I remember that in previous versions, one would have been allowed to select a text add a link like "sub-link-page", and if the page wouldn't yet exist it would be created and linked successfully.

It's a shame how basic functionality has been ruined. I'd like to look into the eyes of the product manager who has decided to do this.

It is still possible in the new editor, but currently only by typing in the link - you can't use a slash command or the toolbar to do it.

See Insert links | Confluence Cloud | Atlassian Support and scroll down to the section on Link to an undefined placeholder page:

Type [Placeholder Page Name]().
This follows the syntax as the keyboard shortcut for adding defined links [Link] (
Press Enter or Return to create the placeholder.

Create an undefined placeholder page link
  1. Type [Placeholder Page Name]()
This follows the syntax as the keyboard shortcut for adding defined links [Link] (
  2. Press Enter or Return to create the placeholder.
  3. Select Close to keep the page as a DRAFT or select Publish

this feature that was so simple before it is much more complicated now because you have to put the (). why do we invent complicated solutions like this. it tokk me 30 minutes to figure out how to insert such a link.

Was this ever resolved? I would think that such a basic functionality should be top priority :-/
