Counting the number of sprints

Hello,

Is there a way to find the number of sprints a given issue has?

My ultimate goal is to automatically set Start date and Due date for an issue depending on the Sprint start date and sprint end date. But for issues that have taken or will take more than one sprint to complete, I'd like to maintain the start date and only change the due date.

My thought process is to create an automation as follows:

Trigger: Value added for Sprint field

If the number of sprints is 1, then copy sprint start date and end date to Start date and Due date

If else, the number of sprints is >1, then don't copy and change start date, copy and change Due date

Hi @Justin Gong,

Use the smart value {{issue.sprint.size}} to check how many sprints the issue has. Here's the example of the rule:

Hope it helps.

This works. Thank you!

On a related note, I am trying to learn/familiarize myself on how to use smart values, but don't really like how it's broken down on Atlassian pages that cover this. For example, I tried looking for a field like what you provided, but wasn't able to find it.

Is there another space/page that perhaps has a list of all of the smart values that I can refer to?

@Justin Gong, yes, using Automation can make one feel like an explorer 😀

Since the field Sprint is a list field please use this page to find all the smart values available for lists: https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/jira-smart-values-lists/

Thanks @Kseniia Trushnikova

Would you be able to explain why jiradate is needed at the Edit Issue step? Why wouldn't {{issue.sprint.startDate}} be sufficient?
