Confluence server moves piles of memory to the buffer/cache.

Hi Team,

We got a situation,

From past 10 year we are using Social text (The Grid) for all our documentations.

Now our licence is going to end with Social Text on this November end. For the reason all senior management agreed upon to move all contents to Confluence from Social Text.

We have hired some consultant to move Social Text (The Grid) content to Confluence the content is about 61k pages and they proved POC and have asked for us to setup confluence test linux server which is about 16 GB RAM and 300 GB disk drive.

As per their request we have setup the test server in one of our AWS region.

The consultant have prepared script to push the content, as soon as they started script test confluence server started eating up free memory and moving it the buff/cache.

Is there any particular reason why the server is moving piles of memory to the buff/cache?

PS: Confluence JVM is set to 4GB.

Thanks in advance.
