Confluence - "Here's what changed" email notifications - How do I determine what changed?

David Willson September 11, 2018

We are sent email notifications when someone modifies a page in confluence, but looking at the email I don't see what has changed. The content sent in the email just looks like the page to me. The email tells me there are 2 new edits, how can I determine what is changed from the email?

To see what changed currently my method is to go to the page, then go to historical versions, then click to compare a historical version to the current, there is a color coded legend and I can see what changed.

The email notification includes the content of the page so I would assume I should be able to see what changed from the notification but I can't seem to figure out how to do that.

Thanks for your help,

-David

It turns out there is some highlighting in the email notifications, it's just not that obvious and its a lighter color.

Can we change this highlight colour somehow?  The "Here's what changed" emails are just pointless spam without being able to see what's changed.

Here is how I see very clearly what has changed:

1) Open the page you want to see about changes
2) ... (in top right) > page history > click an older page

3) Click "compare with current" (top of the page on the leftish side)

I find doing it this way is easier then reading the email, technically they are the same but it seems easier for me.

Hi is there progress in this feature request? (Being able to see in the e-mail what content part has been changed in the daily e-mail notification).

On confluence 6.15.1 this was default functionality that I’m really missing now!

Benny.

Hi David,

I've noticed your question and want to recommend the Handy Diff macro (from the Handy Macros app).

You need just to click the icon with the number of changes made since your last visit to open the default Confluence page diff showing differences between the current page revision and the revision you saw last time.

Best regards,

Natalie

Hi @Natalie Paramonova _Stiltsoft_  I was just wondering are the any plans to enhance the 'Handy Diff' macro to identify content changes within an 'excerpt-include' macro.

For example: Page A used the 'excerpt-include' macro that is pulling content in from Page 123.  Content is updated on Page 123. Will the 'Handy Diff' macro on Page A reflect the changes that were made on Page 123?

Hi @Karen_Mustain ,

I've added your feature request to our backlog. We need to investigate the ability to implement this feature. I'll keep you posted on it.
