Confluence fails to upgrade to 7.7.4 / 7.7.3 (from 7.4.0)

Mark de Bont [Terberg] September 24, 2020

When upgrading Confluence, after backing up the data, it deletes the Confluence app directory and the installer fails.

I end up with a error.log file containing:

In action "Update JVM Options when upgrading JDK 8 to JDK 11 [Run script]" (screen "Upgrade Actions [Form]"), property "Script":
java.lang.NullPointerException
.....

Using the openjdk version "11.0.8" 2020-07-14

It was resolved by upgrading using the .ZIP file. Actually I found it just as easy as using the regular installer (.EXE). The details can be found on the instruction page for upgrading using .zip file. Worked like a charm.

Dear Mark,

where you able to fix this? We have the same exact issue.

I contacted Atlassian support on this is issue since there was no response here. They advised other JVM and parameters. But to no avail.
