Confluence and JIRA do not show up in Internet Explorer

Confluence and JIRA will not load in Internet Explorer and only displays a blank screen or is missing a lot of functionality (i.e. left toolbar/navigation is missing)

It's running on IE version 11 and works perfectly in Google Chrome.
