Confluence Plugins displaying in Individual Users Permission screen

Terri Yeago September 24, 2018

Why does the plugins I have on the Confluence Cloud instance show up under Individual Users in Permissions? Can I remove them without affecting their function in Confluence?

Here are the add-ons that are listed:

Copy Space for Confluence (addon_ac-copy-space)

Questions for Confluence (addon_com.atlassian.confluence.plugins.confluence-questions)

AnnouncerC (addon_com.wittified.atl-announcer-confluence)

Chat Notifications (addon_confluence-chats-integration)

Hi,

When you install an app on Confluence Cloud you will get the "requested scopes" prompted. These define with which privileges the app can act on your system e.g. read / write / admin. Therefore the cloud app will act as the corresponding addon_ user.

As soon as you remove these users from a space their functionality won't work correctly anymore. E.g. menu entries etc still showing up, but actions executed might fail.

This is also true if you use apps which need to access pages however these pages have view / edit restrictions which do not allow the app to execute its actions.

So the short answers is "No" you should not remove these users if not required.

Best, Tobias

Hi @Tobias Anstett _K15t_ ,

We have several add-on users that we want to add to groups for better management of space permissions. However, these users are not visible when we attempt to add them to groups, creating confusion.

We have just started migrating from the Data Center to the Cloud.  We noticed these add-on permissions as well and our users are very confused about what this is and have a high potential of users removing access for add-ons by mistake. l

It would be best if Atlassian moved the add-on permissions to a new tab or separated them under the users to have two separate sections (i.e., Users vs. Add-on permissions)).
