Confluence Dashboard - Welcome Message - How to include link to set up Personal Space?

This is a question about customizing the Confluence Dashboard. I want to include a link in the "Get Started" Welcome Message: "Create Your Personal Space" so that users can click on this link to set up a Personal Space. (I know they can do this from their name > Personal Space, but thought it would be a good item to include in the Welcome Message as well.)

As the article points out you will need to make changes to your login.vm with the set of instructions you wish to include. This file is a velocity template ad as such can run custom scripts and pieces of code. A primer on these changes are included below.
