Comments inside expandable sections are hard to access

Rob Bl October 27, 2023

It seems nearly impossible to access comments made on text inside of expandable sections in Confluence. When I get an email notification for such a comment, the link takes me only to the page, it does not expand the section OR display the comment.

When I follow a link from a notification within Confluence, it's the same.

I have to go into Edit mode (meaning notifications are no longer accessible in the same browser tab, then manually search for ANY comment, then use the navigation within comments to find the one I need.

It seems like nobody at Atlassian QA tested comments + expandables.

Anybody else?

@Rob Bl Are you talking about inline comments?

Rob Bl October 28, 2023

Yes. Comments added to highlighted text. When I follow links from emails notifying me of comments, if those comments are attached to text inside an expandable, when the page loads, the expandable remains collapsed, and the comment does not appear. It's as if I loaded the page from scratch. I have to open all the expndables and manually search for the comment by clicking on commented text until I find the right one. Ditto if I follow a link from the notification bell.

@Rob Bl I did not.  The issue you are having is a know one.  There is a feature request here https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-36415   You should vote for it.  Others have highlighted this issue on the feature request.

Thanks Brant. I voted, but seeing as this is Atlassian and that topic is 8 years old, I doubt it will ever be fixed, regardless of that the fact that this is a UI/UX/QA failure that should never made it to production in the first place.

Can you accept the answer so others can also find and vote for it.

Rob Bl January 15, 2024

Done. Sorry. Fairly new to the community. Wasn't aware of the protocol and didn't see the button. Cheers!

And in the process I have discovered another Atlassian-style problem with these very forums. I have to "Accept Answer" at the top level, not on the sub-comment that included the actual answer. *GRRR*
