Hi,
I wanted to set up a bunch of Confluence page templates that included an embedded databased for a decision register along with questions and answers because, it allows there to be a more structured way of managing business requests in my team if we have something repeatable.
The problem I have is, even though the databases are child pages of the parent page, when I clone/copy the page and include child objects (pages and databases), it doesn't transpose what the child object is on the new parent page, it is still connected to the original template child objects.
Is there are a way of ensuring that a template can be copied and used without having to remove a database and insert a new one every time? It kind of defeats the purpose of setting up templates. Thanks
This actually makes perfect sense to me as I am trying to do the same thing. The use case is that I am making databases and embedding them on an onboarding checklist. The purpose of one database is for organizing one on one meetings that I have been making with my organization in a way where I can filter who I have met with, scheduled with etc. I am making this document to be repeatable for other folks who are onboarding but making a direct copy of my checklist does not make a copy of the database and instead connects it to the one that I have been using to chart my progress with my one on ones.
The work around I have found for this is to make a copy of the database and then insert the copy to the copy of the checklist which is not ideal but I have not been able to figure out a a better workaround.
A database is a standalone entity - it's independent of the pages.
So when you create a template with the embed database macro, it will tell the user 'databases goes here' and then they specify which DB they wanna use.
If it's a one specific DB that should be included in the template, see if you can use plain DB link in the template (perhaps as a code/monospace) so users don't have to hunt for it.

A database in Confluence is one of the content types you can create besides a Page, a Blog or a Whiteboard.
A template is based on a page, not on a database.
Personally, I've never tried to create a template with a database included, so I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve is even possible.
