Clicking "Files & images" only shows file upload dialog – can't choose from attachments

Torben Giesselmann March 7, 2021

Hi,

According to Confluence documentation clicking "Files & images" should show existing attachments and allow me to upload new files. However, for me it only shows me the file upload dialog box (from the browser) ... no way for me to choose an existing file. See screen recording here:

Yes, I've tried clearing my cookies.

Yes, I've tried incognito mode.

Yes, I've tried different browsers (Chrome and Safari).

Thanks,

Hi @Torben Giesselmann this functionality has been unshipped. https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Updates-to-your-file-uploading-experiences/ba-p/1592157

I'll talk to Confluence to get the documentation updated.

Thank you, Owen. That explains it. :)

But doesn't it seem counter-intuitive that, when I edit a page and I accidentally delete an image, I have to re-upload that image even though I know it's "already there", as an attachment to the page? Not only is that a questionable user experience, but it also creates more data on your end because now you (Atlassian) have to store multiple versions of the exact same image, just because the author wasn't able to reference the image.

"... all the Dude ever wanted was his picture back ... it really tied the page together ..."

Thanks for the message @Torben Giesselmann

For accidental deletions you could use the versioning system to skip back to a previous version. Plus if you click the 'more actions' button at the top right of the page you can access the attachments panel to find files uploaded to the page.

Copying and pasting from the attachments panel to the page would create a new version though. There is this ticket to help resolve that: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-65344

Actually one of the reasons we did deprecate Recents is it wasn't actually Recents. It was a whole other copy of the files added to pages.
