Can you create Jira tickets from a form on a Confluence page? (without paid plugins)

Löki December 1, 2023

We would like to create a page to Confluence, where internal users can submit issues easily, from which a ticket would automaticall be created to certain Jira project.

At minimum, the form / input fields should contain:

  • Text field (used for the description/summary field in Jira)
  • Drop-down menu to select category

Also other types of fields would be plus (selection "tick" boxes etc.)

Is this possible to do with cloud Confluence and cloud Jira, without any additional paid plugins?

Summarized update on this:

  • You can create forms if you use Business Project or Service Management project type. (Both have slighlty different forms, but bot work with Confluence.)
  • Software project type does not support forms.
  • Confluence Cloud does not support HTML snippets, so using a Issue Collector is a no-go.
  • If you are locked to using a Software Project type, there is a workaround:
    1. Create a Business or Service Management project to act as a forwarding hub. (Let's call it "Forward HUB")
    2. Create a form using that and put it on a Confluence page.
    3. Create automation to "Forward HUB" to move/copy the issue to another project of your choosing (the Software project) and then delete the original issue, if you need or want.

Hi @Löki

Probably using a Jira collector https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/use-the-issue-collector/

(but I think you will still need an HTML macro / plugin on cloud)

Thanks for the response, Alex.

Yeah it seems that the issue is in the inability to implement the Issue Collector to a Confluence page, since HTML macros for cloud are seemingly unavailable without plugins.

Getting plugins accepted by ICT is usually a pretty heavy process, so therefore I try to avoid those until absolutely necessary.

If anyone knows a way to embed or otherwise add the Jira Issue Collector to Confluence cloud pages, I'm all ears.
