Hi Ben,
Deploying JIRA and Confluence in the same Tomcat container is is not supported by Atlassian. This is because it can cause unavailability to start up both applications, due to class conflicts.
You can check full information and reasons for Atlassian to not deploying the apps in the same Tomcat here:
Hope it helps you, Ben!
Cheers,
ENunes
Hi Ben,
In addition to not be supported, Atlassian does not provide the EAR WAR versions of the applications Confluence and JIRA anymore. The versions provided comes bundled with Tomcat now. So it was not supported before and it is not possible now.
Cheers,
Rodrigo

Its not a good practice to have JIRA and Confluence running on same Tomcat Server. Memory Issues, Startup Errors and i completely agree with Nic where you have to make sure every library they share should be on identical versions.

In theory, sort of. In real life, no.
If you want to do it, you have to make sure that every library that they share is on identical versions, and that's not happened since about version 3 of JIRA.
Don't do it, you will hurt yourself.

Hi Ben,
Deploying multiple Atlassian applications in one tomcat container is not supported.
Basically one application crashes, the other applications will not be accessible.
For more info and FAQ see Atlassian documentation below
