Hi Andrew,

If you do need to do this, this page might be helpful:

I know this was answered long ago; when linking Jira Server and Confluence Cloud we encountered a problem that might affect others also.

We were unable to link our Jira Server to Confluence Cloud - the error from Confluence Cloud said "No response was received from the URL you entered..." (i.e. the Jira Server URL).

This message didn't make any sense since our Server was online and available. We logged a support ticket and after Atlassian investigated they determined this was due to our Jira Server SSL certificate not including the full intermediate and root Certificates for the Certificate Authority (CA).

This page indicates you cannot use a self-signed certificate (we didn't):

The Application Links troubleshooter doesn't mention intermediate/root certificates this either:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/applinks/troubleshoot-application-links-755338283.html

The SSL troubleshooting page does mention intermediate certificates - but it took some time to realise this was the problem:

Atlassian have logged an improvement suggestion - to make the Confluence Cloud Link error messages more helpful. Feel free to vote for that if you've had difficulty troubleshooting links:

What do you mean by "link"?  There are some things you can do, but not everything.

Thanks Nic.  I was intending to ask whether they can be integrated together but my direction has changed and we'll be pursuing a Confluence server-based install instead of the cloud-based solution.  We already have a server-based JIRA install and if both applications are server-based then is the integration better?  In other words, are all functionalities available if both are server-based installs?

Ah, good.  With both on Server, you are unrestricted in what you can do with them.  I'd recommend a look at shared user directories at the very least (manage all your users in JIRA and tell Confluence to use the list directly), but there's lots of other stuff - the JIRA macros in Confluence are really handy.
