Automated review notification

We maintain our knowledge base library in Confluence and would like to implement some notification to occur when a knowledge article requires review.

We'd like to set a next review date on each document and have some form of notification (email, slack channel notification) occur on that date. 

is this feasilble or do you have any suggestions on how to achieve this functionality without any add-on?

Regarding your question, I don't think it is feasible to manually set a "next review date" on each document. In addition, do you want to do this recurrently after each review?

From my experience, it is much better to follow an automated approach and base the review either on the page's activity, which means a page automatically gets a "review required" status if it has not been updated or viewed for a particular time, or establish a periodic review cycle by setting the "review required" status automatically after x days have passed since the last review.

If a (potentially free) app is acceptable, then the Better Content Archiving app has been continuously developed for 10+ years to solve this problem!

For example, you can select the next review date through this quick action:

...and send you personalized notifications about the exact list of pages you should review:

The app is very feature-rich, but the most important features related to your use case:

• Set an expiration date for each page separately (or even for a whole page tree).
• Use custom statuses (although there is the default "Expired" status you could use out of the box, or maybe rename it to "To review").
• Send custom notifications.

Plus get a list of pages to review, view status reports, list them using a macro, and so on.

You could use automation to send out a reminder email or slack message x number of days after publishing.
