It looks like Stepshot is pretty dead right now and isn't accepting new users. I tried it without a membership and it's unstable and buggy in it's current form.

Any good alternatives? Ideally something that work with confluence.

I ended up finding a tool called Snipaste which works great.

I use the Chrome app called Awesome Screenshot with great success. It can copy the shot to the clipboard which I then just paste to a Jira issue. (It'd probably enable pasting that to a Confluence page attachment...)

I've used it. It's a likely clunky for my tastes.

I found a tool called Snipaste which works really well.

Hey Michael!

I personally use Skitch (Windows/Mac) for annotations. The editor is pretty quick and it's forgiving with a small learning curve. Ctrl+Shift+C copies your whole annotated screenshot to the clipboard, or you can drag and drop the file icon from Skitch to wherever you need it to go. Confluence does great accepting pastes from Skitch.

If I don't need annotations, I generally just use the crosshair screenshot to clipboard in MacOS (Cmd+Control+Shift+4) or the Snipping Tool in Windows. Alternatively I hear Snappy is pretty decent if you're on MacOS.

Cheers,
Daniel

I don't think Skitch has a Windows version.

They did offer a Windows version in the past, but ended support a while ago which also took it off their official download site. Many free software download sites still have the last published version available. Not a lot has changed even in the Mac version since then to be honest - it's a pretty straightforward application.

If having support is important, a lot of people swear by SnagIt. It's not free, but the company behind it is pretty stellar. I've worked with folks that loved it so much they paid for it out of pocket if they couldn't get it reimbursed.

I like TechSmith. I use their Camastia program for basic video editing. I'll give it a look.

I did find another program called Snipaste which works great for just being able to cut and paste. Very easy click on icon, capture, annotate and paste function. Doesn't really have any major UI to deal with.
