Add all Active Directory users to group confluence-users automatically

Uwe Pulver January 13, 2020

Is it possible to add all users from an external directory (MS Active Directory) to group confluence-users automatically (via periodic synchronization)?

For user authentication we use Microsoft Active Directory with setting "Read Only, with Local Groups" and default group membership ="confluence-users".
That means, that every user in our company can logon to Confluence and is added to group confluence-users on first logon. After he has initially logged on he can be @mentioned in pages (e.g. for task assignment) and can be granted space access permissions by space admins.

We have

ca. 4000 employees (in our MS active directory)

ca. 3000 users in group confluence-users    and

a 10.000-User Confluence license.

We have the request, that all AD users from our MS active directory are added to group confluence-users automatically (e.g. via synchronisation) to allow that our ca. 1000 users who have not yet logged on in Confluence can be @mentioned in Confluence and can be granted space permissions directly (without additional delaying communication needs) and to avoid that we only have a 75% user coverage in our Confluence based collaboration processes.

Possible solutions might be:

- User directory configuration

- Scriptrunner
