Unable to work with profile pic macros now

Is something wrong with the profile pic macro at the moment in Confluence Cloud? I have a page (space homepage, old-style editor and not ready to upgrade to new). I'm trying to add a profile pic macro into a table cell, but it simply doesn't work. If I add one, it doesn't appear after I press the add button. If I copy an existing one, then modify it to point at a different user, the change is lost and it still points at the original user. After adding one of these macros, I lose the ability to publish any changes - it just does nothing when I click the Publish button.

Is there a known issue here, and can we get an ETA on the fix from Atlassian if so?

To experiment a little further, I went to my own personal space (new editing experience) and tried to add a profile pic macro there. This doesn't work either, but just says "no options" in the dropdown to select a user. Is this macro just broken at the mo?
