Table in JIra/Projects/Task description , clone doesn't copy correctly

Iain Davidson June 22, 2022

I use tables in a Project Task description.

However, when I clone or copy the description to another new Task, the table is broken.

Several scenarios will demonstrate the issue:

a) Description just contains a table of data.

b) Text before table

c) Text after table.

d) Table, two lines of text, table, and two lines of text with links.

Save the new Task, then immediately clone/copy the task. Observe that the formatting is not correct.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

or use the codes

| Fruit | Size | Quantity |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Apple | Medium | 2 |
| Banana | large | 3 |
| Cantalope | Small | 5 |

Yes! I am having the same issue. It was working before, but now when cloning I'm getting a similar result as what the OP described. Is there a way to fix this?

I am experiencing all of the above as well. The issue improves slightly (less separation of tables) if I do not use header row, header columns, or numbered columns on the tables, but the issue does persist even without those.

Same here, table splits in two when cloning an issue

Follow up notes:

Now happens to me all the time.  I regularly create new Jira issues cloned from older ones. Have figured out one method, for resolving malformed tables on a cloned Jira issues.

1) Clone older Jira issue with table.
2) Go back to older Jira issue.
3) In Jira issue Description box, edit, select all (Ctrl-A), copy (Ctrl-C).
4) Switch to new (cloned) Jira issue.
5) Edit Description box.
6) Select all (Ctrl-A_, then paste (Ctrl-V).
7) Save new description.
8) Tables format is retained now.

The other alternative method, have a 'template' of the table setup in a confluence page.  Then copy/paste the information into a new cloned Jira Issue description box.
