How do we send emails in Confluence 7.0.1?

So Atlassian have broken their MultiQueueTaskManager, it no longer accepts a 

MailQueueItem??? 

Does anyone no how to send emails using 7.0.1?

I found the solution in the confluence release notes for 7.0.

It's a long way down. Need to search for email.

We have the same problem. 

Documentation with last update in april does not help. https://developer.atlassian.com/server/confluence/sending-emails-in-a-plugin/

We found that following but i don't know if we run in performance issues with that.
