Electrical consumption of a hard disk

hilltina November 7, 2019

Good morning all

I will create a NAS from a server.
There should be 10 or 15 disk in it.

as I must sizer at best and it is a machine that will turn 24/24 (with the cons that goes with) I must know if the current power supply is sufficient.

so my question is this
on average how much can we estimate the consumption of a disk
3.5 "
2.5 "mechanical
2.5 "SSD

thanks in advance

This does not really have anything to do with Confluence, you would be better off asking in hardware fora.

But, as it's something I've looked at before:

You'll find most hard drives consume between 15W and 30W when highly active.  So your NAS should have a supply capable of delivering 450W (15 disks at 30W each).

If you swap to SSDs, they need a lot less, I don't think I've seen one that needs more than 2W while heavily loaded.
