Confluence "Best Practice" when updating Add-Ons

We're looking to see what others have for "best practices" when updating their Add-Ons?

Since there is no schedule as to when an Add-On is released, do any of you just blindly install the suggested update listed in the Manage Add-Ons, and hope it works okay?  Do you review the changes and determine if they fix bugs vs add enhancements, then schedule a time to apply the update?
