NEW: A better way to create Jira work items from Confluence tables

As a part of our efforts to make the transition from planning to execution smoother and more efficient, we’re introducing an improved way to create Jira work items directly from tables in Confluence.

This update is designed to save you time and give you enhanced flexibility and functionality in turning your plans in Confluence into trackable work in Jira.

What’s new

Create a single work item or multiple work items within a table by simply highlighting the text in a table.

Experience the convenience of pre-filled work items, complete with suggested summary and description fields, eliminating the need for manual data entry.

Have full control over which columns are used for the Summary and Description fields, ensuring your work items are customized to your needs with less effort.

Access work items directly on your Confluence page once they've been created, reducing the need to switch between tabs and tools.

When in Jira, easily navigate back to your Confluence page from your Jira work item, keeping all of your resources and important documents at your fingertips.

We believe that this new workflow will be a major timesaver for teams using Confluence and Jira… and there’s more to come! Soon, you’ll be able to add even more mapping options like ‘label', ‘due date’, and others, and connect them to columns in your table. Stay tuned in our Confluence community space for this update!

Try it out by navigating to your Confluence site and let us know what you think in the comments below.

I do like this feature except for one thing. The issue links do not get repopulated from a Business project. Is that expected behavior?

Hi @Laura Mehrkens ,

I am excited for this, I had a user asking for something to this effect recently.

I gave it a quick test, and I am noticing a few oddities I wanted to flag:

After highlighting text in the table and selecting create multiple tickets,
I get a flash of the prefilled attempt, but then that quickly goes away and is replaced by a panel that just says the site, project, and then gives a link to 'configure' (see screenshot 1 below). Possibly relevant: we do not have the AI feature turned on - is this feature dependent on that?

Once I click on that 'configure', I then get the same panel shown in your third image in the article above, however the first Issue field is selectable (screenshot 2 below), and I can theoretically choose any field listed in the dropdown (screenshot 3 below) while the second is greyed out and preset to description. Is the first also meant to be locked down at this stage?

Thanks!

We love the feature and this is a great way of generating a lot of content in an intuitive way.
Unfortunately I am missing the "Parent" option when creating multiple issues.
The old process demonstrated in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpuMAfBwf_8&t=83s would take an Epic link on the page and use as the parent - this also removed the need to select project.

Any intention of enabling this again?

Is this feature only available in Premium? Because I don't see it in Standard

This is nice functionality, but am I correct in assuming that at the moment we can only map table columns to SUMMARY and DESCRIPTION? In the example you also have a Start Date but I've not seen how I can map a date column to any other field.
