Introducing the Notion Importer: Seamlessly Bulk Import Your Notion Content into Confluence!

Hi Atlassian Community,

I’m Tiffany Chung, a Product Manager on the Confluence Cloud team. We’re thrilled to introduce a new feature that addresses a long-standing request: the ability to move content from Notion to Confluence more seamlessly.

Until now, bulk migration from Notion to Confluence has been a challenge. We’ve listened to your feedback and are excited to announce the launch of the Notion Importer(Beta) for Confluence.

Confluence is your central knowledge hub!

It remains the go-to destination for users seeking their content and managing information. The Notion importer plays a crucial role in this by helping users consolidate their tools and smoothly transition their content into Confluence. This ensures a more seamless experience as users bring their information together in one place.

How to import Notion content:

1. Access import options: As a site or org admin, go to the spaces dropdown menu and select “Import from other tools.”

2. Follow the Import Flow: Proceed through the import process by uploading your Notion content, configuring users and spaces, and reviewing your selections.

3. Completion Notification: You will receive an email once your import is complete.

We’re excited for you to continue using Confluence as your knowledge hub. Please note that this feature is currently in Beta and will see further enhancements in future releases. We welcome any feedback you have on the importer here. Happy importing!

Note: This feature is rolling out over the next week, so you may not see it on your instance yet.

Can you use the Sandbox space to do a trial run of the Importer ? We'd like to test this out first to help determine level of effort that will be needed after importing to clean up and re-organize spaces before we roll the whole team into Confluence.

Thank you for the good news.

I exported my Notion workspace to move it to Confluence, but since the workspace was too large, the result was several zip files, each about 50 GB, totaling 700 GB (not multiple segments, just multiple zip files).

Is this kind of situation supported?

Also, most of the size comes from videos. Would it be possible for me to filter out the videos first, import the rest to Confluence with a single zip file, and then restore the broken video links one by one (using Confluence API or something)?

FYI we are trying to move about 100 people from Notion and I couldn't see that migration menu on my Confluence yet.

Hi folks, we've found a bug on Notion workspace imports and we are addressing this bug in the next few weeks. This bug is due to the variable export file format provided by Notion. Thank you for your patience!

@Tiffany Chung Hello,

Beta version has an upload limit of about 100MB. Are there any plans to remove or increase this limit in the official release?

This was a great feature. Thank you for developing it.

As mentioned in other feedback, it is also necessary to ease the upper limit on the data to be migrated, but I would like to add the following two points, focusing on the specifications of the migration function.I hope you will take this into consideration and use it as a reference for the general release!

1. I would like to have Notion's team space owner permissions granted to the Confluence space "Administaration".

I have confirmed that the Notion team space permission patterns are grouped into Atlassian groups before migration.

I really like the feature that people who had "viewing permissions" for the team space on the Notion side only have "viewing permissions" for the Confluence space,
and people who were "owners" are granted "editing permissions".

But,In many cases where the "owners" of Notion's team spaces are granted only editing permissions in Confluence, there are insufficient permissions, and I think that the person in charge of the migration (Atlassian site administrator) often needs to add the space "Administaration" to the permission status of each space.

I would like it if administrator permissions were granted to the group permissions of the Confluence space to which it is migrated. Or if there is an option It would be great if you could do this.

2. I would like the hierarchical structure of "projects" and "tasks" in Notion's project management function to be represented on the Confluence side.

With the current importer, tasks created in projects on the Notion side are imported as pages in Confluence spaces, and we have confirmed that URL-Link is implemented. The organization of hierarchical relationships such as epics and tasks between projects and tasks is not maintained.

With the current function, it is difficult to recommend migration because the toil of organizing the page hierarchy after migrating from Notion to Confluence is too large.

Confluence has recently added the Confluence Database and folder functions, so we hope that imports from Notion's database and project functions will be organized by default.

---
Our Notion environment has more than 1,000 users in multiple workspaces.
It is very important that you incorporate the above feedback to promote the migration to Confluence.

Aahahah ...
how about being more open on "working together" with notion instead of pleasing a very few people ?
For example instead of recommending doc from confluence - which no one use anymore now at my company - to make the interconnection with documentation stored in Notion from a Jira ticket ?

I have to do the link manually on my Jira tickets to the IT doc in my Notion.
It doesn't make any sense in 2024 ... good luck Jira with your approach.
