Introducing Table Visualization! Quickly turn Confluence tables into compelling charts

Hi Confluence Community,

Data is good but rows of data on a page can be overwhelming without a clear visual takeaway. Or if you do have a visual takeaway in the form of a static chart, there's the cumbersome process of creating it outside Confluence, taking a screenshot, inserting it into Confluence — only to have a value change and have the process start over. There’s a lot to ❤️ about Confluence, but presenting data has been more 😩 than 😍 …until now!

Say hello 👋 to Table Visualization - a new way for you to present data dynamically from your tables as pie charts, bar charts, and line charts without leaving Confluence!

You can make charts from your tables to do things like track work, share dashboard-style pages, create financial reports, visualize survey data, and more. You also have the ability to add multiple charts on a page using data from one table to get a top-level view of your data and draw actionable insights.

This feature is rolling out over the next month so if you don’t see it in Confluence today, you will soon. We’re thrilled to bring visual storytelling capabilities to Confluence so you can go from analysis to presentation in just a few clicks. Table Visualization brings your data to life with interactive charts so everyone can quickly glean the biggest takeaways.

Give it a try and let us know what you think in the comments👇 below! Our product manager extraordinaire@Sam Ugulava will address your questions and comments.

Will this also work with dynamic tables (page properties reports)?

So glad to see this in action, great work on the videos team!

It's great to see that copying and pasting doesn't break anything and that you can use it to make multiple charts with a similar configuration.

Very cool! When can we drag-drop rearrange rows & columns in tables?

Nice functionality. Are you working on nesting tables inside the table and filtering table without add-ons?

That's pretty cool and exciting additions dear @Reni Carlson

Confluence is going out of the expectations and hats- off to the person or team behind this idea.

This is great, but would be perfect if it applied to dynamic tables that pull in from Jira...

Is there a date/ plan for this functionality to be extended to the 'Jira Issue/ Filter' tables?

Amazing, thank you!

More like this please! A super useful feature. Would love to see you add in some basic field calculations in tables. Creating totals and averages for example.

Is there a way to hide the Data so that the Chart is only visible?

That is really great!

With support from any markup langage, we would be able to turn our data to meaningful charts from our scripts, it would be so interesting!!

Was waiting for this feature. Thanks, Atlassian team for adding this!

Andrey Kiyanovskiy June 14, 2022

That's a good start! What about Jira data as a source?

Nice.

Jose Ariel Laureano Ramirez June 14, 2022

This is great but does it work with values that are embedded in a JIRA query?

For example:

I tried to insert a chart for this table and it does not present any chart

Result:

Any ideas?

It would be nice if it had options like SUM vs COUNT.

I'd also like to use it with </status> - currently it only works with plain text and numbers.

The use case: As a member of our Ops team, when I look at our table of projects, I'd like a pie chart to show at-a-glance how many projects are in each of 5 statuses.

but it's still not possible to sum up all rows in a column? another case of atlassian having weird priorities...

YES! I like this.

Gabriela Marques Edington June 14, 2022

I cant wait for it to be able to sum, subtract, divide and multiplicate.
