Feedback of current functions

Hello folks,

we have tried out the tool with a small group of users. We have worked out PainPoints and would like to share them, maybe they can be observed soon:

Missing functions from Miro:

  • The "locking" of elements (anchoring)
  • Extended colour selection
  • Reacting in Post-Its/Reacting in general
  • Showing the author in a Post-It
  • Ability to show lines as dashed
  • Movable arrows that go around the corner
  • Focus or full screen mode
  • PDF download
  • Improved functionality for creating sections
  • Tables

Integration and user experience:

  • More direct integration of the whiteboard in Confluence Pages.

Performance and stability:

  • Fixing of errors or bugs that lead to data loss, especially in the context of sections

I found out that there is no Roadmap contains upcoming functions. However, many users would certainly find this very interesting, perhaps a public roadmap is possible soon.

Thank you for your work team Atlassian,

Nicole

Hi,

Thanks Nicole for posting these, I have to agree with comparing this to Miro as that has set the standard in the user experience.

So here are my votes for: not yet in this beta - but in Miro (and very useful)

Shape stacking and alignment

  • Alignment of shapes: align horizontally, middle, vertically

I think the drawing tools need a couple more things to be useful day to day.
Selecting multiple and horizontal, middle, vertical shape align is pretty key.

  • Layer controls: send backward, bring forward - more useful?

I think bring forward, send backward are needed (I find it rare we stop with only two stacked shapes on a region.) To see why this is annoying try and use the sailboat retro template on a region. Add some stricky notes. You will rapidly find the boat disappears easily and it's a bit of pain in the b*tt to find it again :)

Import Miro data easily

  • Miro allows export of realtimeboard files, andlessusefully, CSV - I wonder is there any chance Atlassian are working on making that happen? It would rock.

Getting Jira easily

  • Jira import: entering JQL seems to only take 1st query, then stop

-When entering a query or filter
-The expected result for me is that the tool will keep on polling .. to check if I altered the JQL, and keep re-submitting the altered query.
-The actual result for me is it seems to lock-up or perhaps stops checking to see if your query has altered. (The first JQL you use appears to be what you get stuck with). Then I need to close it and re-open it.
(It does not behave the one in Jira cloud does for me anyway)

There is a Miro plugin app that does this nicely but appears to share credentials in kind of a dodgy way. (At least that is how our security dept views it)

This is a very important feature to nail

IMHO the reason this beta product is potentially compelling is altering the UX of Jira without moving our backlogs somewhere else. It could "unbundle" Jira for those who need to present it's data in tons of different ways and find Jira and the need to know their JQL - frustrating

I would like to see the function, such that, as Miro boards function, where a user can embed a scrum/kanban board right into the Whiteboard itself, with interactive functionality from the Whiteboard to move Jira cards that reflect real time interaction with the actual Jira board.

Hey @Nicole Zimmermann @David Gonzales @Rob.McDonald this is awesome feedback - can't thank you all enough. The Confluence whiteboards team really appreciate getting this thorough feedback, it's super important for the way we prioritise upcoming features. I've noted this all down in our internal feedback collector tool!

@Nicole Zimmermann re some of the things you mentioned;

  • We do have the ability to "lock" elements on the whiteboard today if you right click to open the contextual menu or use the shortcut "cmd+shift+L" when selecting an element. Is this what you are referring to?
  • Could you explain more about improved functionality for creating sections?
  • Could you also explain what kind of integrations you'd like to see between whiteboards and pages in Confluence?

@Rob.McDonald really great feedback! We do have plans in the first half of the next calendar year to start providing board export capabilities as well as importers from other tools.

  • Re Jira import, are you asking to save/store the JQL query after import?

@David Gonzales oo this is a cool idea, I like that. Are there certain things you'd want to do on the whiteboard with this functionality that you can't do in Jira today?

Thanks @Christina Ristevski

Apologies for my late reply

- On JQL

What would be cool is if you could see queries you had previously run in the Whiteboard/ or maybe paste in a filter link from Jira, or search by filter name. As we usually model. them there 1st.

- Import OR Paste?

When the whiteboard offers the ability to bulk create tickets it makes it faster to get productive.

So even if file import might take a while to do or be less of a priority - a simple paste of a column of text and creating sticky notes from it - this is really nice. Miro for example you can copy a column of text from excel, switch tabs and paste. It creates sticky notes in bulk.
