Typing is almost impossible when changing the name of a value

Hi Everyone,

I have started using Confluence databases about two months ago. I have noticed that the page loads a bit slow and there is slowness when scrolling too.

I also experience extreme slowness with the keyboard input when typing. I wanted to change the name of a value in the field settings. There are two things I have seen:

1. When I try to add a new item and type its name in the empty field, only a few of the keys I have hit go through and become visible. As a result only random letters are picked from the word I have typed. Typing download can result in owlad.

2. When trying to edit the name of a value, the cursor jumps to the end of the string each time I input a letter or delete a character.

I have recorded the phenomenon, while I was trying to change Installation & Update to Download & Installation & Update. In the end I had to type very slowly to be able to add the new name of the item. Please watch the clip here.

Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks!

Hi @Emoke Mozesne Csikos thanks for reporting this - I can reproduce the second issue and the team is looking into a fix. I'm not sure if I can reproduce the first one though, do you have a video of that one? And for the second issue, it didn't seem like my typing speed made a difference. Wondering if this happens on all your databases or just some of them, and roughly how large are the databases (number of entries/fields) that this happens for?

Hi @Rachel Li

thanks for getting back to me.

I recorded a video of the first issue or something very similar. In the recorded case not even random keystrokes were picked for a while. You'll see that the input feedback is frozen for a long time, nothing appears of what I have typed in.

Here is the new video of the phenomenon.

I only have one database and a few test versions of it. I have 39 columns and a couple of dozens of entries. Not all data fields are filled in for each entry. In the test version of the database I have 481 entries but only a few fields are filled in for each entry. I don't know how I could give a more exact description of its size in MBs. We want to add hundreds of entries later but will want to view and use the database in filtered views only, so a portion of the entries should be seen at a time usually.

Hey @Emoke Mozesne Csikos thanks for sharing the video. I'm able to reproduce the issue on a large database of my own. I've raised this with the team and we'll work to get it prioritized.

I observed that typing in text cells seems to be easier than typing in the right rail, but do let me know if you have any further observations for where in databases typing is particularly slow (or if you feel it's the same everywhere).

Hello!

Has there been an update on the slowness reported in databases with strange text results? I am currently experiencing a similar issue with typing field names. Instead of only every other letter appearing, however, my entries appear to be duplicating multiple times.

Example: I just tried to create a tag for "Active" and the display was "ActiveActivActiActAcA"

This is less likely to happen when I type painfully slower.

I have this, when I want to enter a name in a new cell, to which the database sort this by name. Because after the first letter, it is being sorted somewhere else.

Is there an update on this or a ticket we can follow? I have also been battling this issue when trying to update a field option in multi select uses as well.

Hey @Starla Manzione @Bri I'm from the databases team and we are investigating these issues. What is the size of the databases that you're experiencing these issues on? Does it happen on all databases or just some of them (ex. larger ones)?

Also wanted to clarify that you're experiencing this when trying to edit/add tags in field settings for a tag field? Does it happen anywhere else? If you have any videos or photos to share, that would be super helpful.

Hi @Rachel Li

I think the databases I have created so far are generally <100 records.

I know for sure it happened for me on the multi-select tag one, but I can't say with confidence that it didn't occur on the other fields.

It's also not consistent. I just went to try to take a video, and I could not reproduce it. However, I encountered it many times before I added my comment previously.

I will try to notice if it happens to only certain databases.

Under 100 entries

Happens when creating a tag, not in the tag field.

Sporadic issue, so I'm unable to take a video for similar reasons to Bri.

@Bri @Starla Manzione to further clarify, does it happen when creating a tag from the field settings panel or from a cell (or both)? Here are some photos to illustrate:
