Improving performance of the Confluence Gallery Macro

The Confluence Gallery Macro, is so slow to load the thumbnails it is unusable.

I have added about 150 photos from a company function to our site and displayed them in a gallery. I uploaded them in there original resolutions, about 3Mbytes each, as I want customers to be able to download them if they want to.

The problem is the gallery shows thumbnails, but the thumbnails appear to be full size images, just scaled in the browser (not on the server) and so the whole page takes an absolute age to render.

Is this macro just crap, or is there some way to fix this behaviour.

If you are using this macro on Confluence Cloud be aware that it is being deprecated soon and won't be fixed/improved.

See https://confluence.atlassian.com/confcloud/we-re-cleaning-up-the-macro-browser-946028471.html and https://confluence.atlassian.com/confcloud/confluence-cloud-editor-roadmap-967314556.html

Hopefully, we might see someone take the opportunity to create a new and improved image gallery macro in the marketplace for those that need it.
