You’ve found what you’re looking for! (Compass now has Advanced Search)

So you’ve set up your component catalog. You’ve imported repos, assigned Teams as owners, maybe linked documentation, Jira projects, or on-call schedules. You’ve got scorecards and metrics set up to track your production readiness and engineering health. Things are looking great!

Now, you want to show off your hard work to your teammates, or maybe your boss. You send them a link to Compass and they arrive at… a long list of components they may or may not know anything about. How can you help them see the value of your hard work, and all that your Compass data has to offer?

Introducing Advanced Search in Compass. Helping you find the information you care about as quickly as possible.

Click in the Search bar in the top right corner of any Compass screen, and you’ll see the Advanced Search option at the bottom of the window that opens.

Click Advanced Search, and our fancy new search experience appears 😮 🔍. You can filter by Component Type, Service Tier, Owner Team or Label, and of course you can search by text. You’ll get the full list of results, not just the abbreviated few that show up in the smaller search flyout.

Now you can make full use of the data you’ve painstakingly organized, and see the groups of components that are important to you.

I hope this is as useful and exciting for you as it is for us. A HUGE thanks to everyone who responded to our request for feedback on our Search and (upcoming) Home Page experience. For a taste of what’s cooking, here’s what we are thinking of for future expansions…

• Searching and filtering by Custom Fields (on deck!)

• A dashboard style “Home Page” that goes a step beyond Advanced Search and aggregates useful information about components into a one-stop shop.
