Hello Compass Community,
This month we’re enhancing the Jira Software importer and introducing more ways to customize Compass with parameters in templates and dropdown menus in custom fields. Plus, discover a tasty way to meet the team over BBQ. Find it all here with Compass (log in here if you're already signed up).
What’s included this month:
🔂 Build your catalog faster: import any repo from Jira Software
🎛️ Start writing code faster with template parameters
⬇️ Dropdown menus now available in custom fields
📺 Developer’s Edge: Respond to issues with the activity feed
👋 Meet the Compass team at our Austin Platform Eng event
Importing your repositories is the fastest way to build your component catalog and keep it up to date, and we’re making it even simpler. You can import repos of any kind from Jira Software directly into Compass. Using the importer is easy:
💻 Navigate to Compass, click “Create” in the top nav, then select “Import.”
👉 Click “Import” next to Jira Software
🧭 Follow the import wizard to import your components and build your catalog
Skip the toil and start writing code faster with templates. Compass templates now have parameters so you can collect more information from users when creating new components, allowing you to customize or bootstrap them. You can include configuration data for deploying or building the component, or administrative information that needs to be tracked in other tools you use. Learn about template parameters and share your feedback here.
We’ve added dropdown customs fields so you can customize your data to just the right degree. When dealing with a preset list of options, dropdowns make it easy to quickly and consistently select from a standardized set, like choosing between Finance, R&D, and IT departments. Learn more about dropdown custom fields.
The activity feed aggregates information related to a component and its upstream dependencies into a single view that is easy to parse without having to switch between multiple tools. This episode of the Developer’s Edge series shows how to respond to potential problems using the Compass activity feed. Learn where to find alerts and deployments and see how that information can be used to efficiently communicate with peers on other teams.
