Compass Communique: March

Hi Compass Community!

Spring is here for the Northern Hemisphere, the blossoms are in bloom and Compass keeps growing new features and more improvements! Let’s see what goodies we’re going to be shipping this month.

Dependency map!

By popular demand - you can now view and navigate through a component’s dependencies in a map view!

It’s a great way to see not just the components you depend on but also the components that they depend on, making it easier than ever to understand how you may be affected by problems with upstream components.

We’ve gone with this more focused view on a component to make it easy to understand the “local neighbourhood” of a component, but we’re still open to adding a map view that lets you view your entire architecture. Let us know what you'd like to see in the comments.

Component ownership emails

We’re rolling out the first of many ways that Compass can keep you up to date with what’s happening across your architecture: informing you when your team has taken ownership of a component. More to come - let us know how you want Compass to keep you in the loop in the comments.

Github metrics

Github_metrics.png

We shared our plan for metrics in Compass last week, with a hugely powerful set of features that allow you to track and score the performance of your components. We’re not done here yet either! This month we’re rolling out metrics for Github repos. Now, when you connect a Github repository to a component (and have installed the Github app) you’ll get a range of metrics that display automatically for that component, including PR Cycle Time, Deployment Frequency and Open Pull Requests, all calculated from your repository data.

What’s more, you’ll even be able to set these metrics as scorecard criteria to check that your components are staying healthy.

Other improvements we’re rolling out:

  • :question_mark: API Docs Curious about integrating with Compass? We’ve improved our API docs so it’s easier to access each query and mutation in our GraphQL API

  • Create component from dependencies Want to set a dependency only to discover the component doesn’t exist yet? Now you can create components directly from the dependency page.

  • Join Atlassian’s conference, Team 22 We’ll be sharing lots of Compass announcements and demos on stage and via video. Either attend live in Las Vegas or join us online

That’s all folks! Want to deep dive with the team about your needs? Schedule a meeting with us.
