Compass Communique: December 2022

Hello Compass Community,

Compass is bringing year-end 🎁 gifts 🎁 that are sure to delight. Unwrap expressive new component types and capture end-user experiences, check out our open source approach to apps, and see how to unleash team collaboration with an exciting new event.

It’s been an exciting year for Compass and Atlassian’s mission to improve the developer experience. From the entire Compass Team, thank you for your enthusiasm, ideas, and participation in Compass beta. We’ve got exciting plans for 2023 and can’t wait to share more updates with you. Until then, we wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday season.

Map components to user experiences with capabilities

Component_Types.png

You understand your team’s libraries, services, and applications, but how much do you know about what your users see? With capabilities in Compass you can overlay new descriptors and track your efforts all the way from service to real-world customer experience such as “watch video” on YouTube or “book a ride” with Uber. Assign metrics like CSAT and SLOs, set ownership, and add dependencies so your teams can trace their output all the way to user value and back again. See how to get started with capabilities.

Plus, five new component types to enhance your catalog

Thought Compass only catalogs libraries and services? What about your data pipelines or your websites? Compass now offers five additional component types right out of the box. Compass helps you understand how these artifacts depend on one another, who owns what, and where you can get help for them to help. Learn about component types and how to create your own components in Compass.

All users can now import components from Compass apps

Building your software catalog just got faster. Now anyone can use Compass wizards to import components from Bitbucket, GitHub, GitLab, and New Relic. Importing components is the quickest way to get started with Compass and automatically populate them with valuable information. And if you’re using cloud-hosted Bitbucket, GitHub, and GitLab, you’ll get events and metrics flowing in Compass with zero additional configuration after import.

See it in action with our demo video or check out our docs for more information: Bitbucket, GitHub, GitLab.

Love seeing the ability to connect data pipelines as components. Nice work Compass team!

It just feels right to have the new component types (such as cloud resources and website). Thanks Compass team!

As the number of types grows, the need for multi-type scorecards becomes even more important! :-/

(When) can we expect changes to scorecards so that it is possible to define them for more than just a single component type?
