Alerts and On-Call in Compass, now in Early Access

Hey everyone, Josh here from the Compass product team and I'm super excited to announce the Early Access Program (EAP) for new alerts and on-call functionality in Compass 🎉 Rollout will start later today on August 12, 2024 and is expected to reach 100% of the EAP cohort by August 29, 2024.

With this new capability, teams can consolidate tooling and receive alerts from over 150 integrations, manage on-call schedules, and respond to alerts—all within Compass, where you already track, collaborate on, and improve your software components.

No more “hide-and-seek” when you receive an alert. When you’re responding to a problem in the middle of the night, Compass gives you critical information across tools, teams, and services. Your team will have greater context with immediate visibility into software component owners, dependencies, and recent changes/activity in one location. Having this information makes it easier to triage, understand the impact, and collaborate to resolve issues quickly, and get back to sleep faster.

We’re initially rolling this feature out to a small cohort of Compass customers and we plan to announce the GA of this feature later this year. Learn more about the alerts and on-call in Compass:

Who is eligible to participate in the EAP?

Only Compass Standard customers who don’t have Opsgenie or Jira Service Management are eligible for the EAP. This minimizes the initial complexity of the feature so that we can build quickly and learn from your feedback before making the feature generally available later this year.

How do I sign up and participate in the EAP?

Eligible customers are automatically enrolled and will receive access to the feature shortly after the rollout begins on August 12, 2024. To begin using these new features, log in to Compass and enable them following the instructions below. If you choose to not participate and enable these features, your existing Compass experience will not be affected.

How do I enable alerts and on-call in Compass?

Once alerts and on-call have been rolled out to your site, you will need to enable them for each desired team to use the feature. In Compass, navigate to the Teams menu and then select a team. You will see a new “Operations” section and information on how to get started. Any Compass full user can enable these features for a team they are a member of.

How will I be notified when and if I have access to the EAP?

We will notify customers subscribed to Compass communications via email when their site has access to alerts and on-call.

Are there additional costs associated with the EAP?

No, the feature will be included in the Compass Standard plan.

What are the benefits of having alerts and on-call in Compass?

Reduce spend: Eliminate a line item from your budget! Alerts and on-call are included in the Compass Standard plan so you don’t need to purchase an additional product for these features.

Reduce friction: Less switching tabs and searching when you consolidate and centralize alerts and on-call management in Compass.

Easy on-call scheduling: Set on-call schedules for your teams and map their ownership with your software components.

Make alert investigation easier: Find the info you need faster and see all recent changes and events in the activity feed.

When will alerts and on-call in Compass be available to everyone?

We plan to announce General Availability (GA) later this year. If you are not yet eligible for the EAP but are interested in alerts and on-call in Compass please let us know in the comments.

Hi, we're very interested in exploring alerts and on-call in Compass. Although we're not yet eligible for the EAP, we'd love the opportunity to try it in our organization to see how it fits our needs
