Share your ideas on component types

Components are the key building blocks for describing your distributed architecture in Compass. But why does the type matter? Types differentiate components and help you categorize your distributed architecture, allowing users to easily navigate to the information they need. Today, Compass offers three core types called Services, Libraries, and Applications, plus a fourth “other” category for unique cases. We’re looking to add additional types best meet your architecture modeling needs. Join the discussion and let us know what component types you want.

Enrich your component catalog with custom fields

So you’ve sorted your components by type but still need to capture important unique attributes of your software architecture. Custom fields enable your team to define, track, and understand important data associated with a given component.

One of our Compass adopters built operational requirements and limitations into their components, including hardware needs and parallel processing capabilities. Components are getting a new look!

The component overview page ties together all of a component’s key attributes, and Compass is making it easier for both first-time and returning users to quickly find the information they need. We’re first bringing scorecard visuals front and center so you can immediately check your component’s health, and future changes will bring additional attributes and details to life in a succinct panel. Check it out and stay tuned for future updates.

We’re also making exciting improvements to the components list page. In the coming weeks, the component list view will offer our full search experience for additional component type information to help you find exactly the details you need.
