What is the difference between BitBucket and GitHub

sc June 4, 2019

Dear all,

I am totally new to BitBucket and actually trying to see how it works.
I notice that we need to import into bit bucket a GitHub repository and then as far as I understand BitBucket became the source control ..

Once change gets notify in BitBucket, does those change gets automatically sync in GitHub as well ?

Or does gitHub is not used anymore once the Repository as been imported into BitBucket ?

Thanks for clarification

regards

This is quite a hard one to answer here, as we're an Atlassian community, so we're mostly going to tell you that Bitbucket is better and you'll feel like ignoring us because we are biased.

Yes, you should, ideally, pick one or the other.  Don't mess around with synchronising or replicating - if you're going to use Bitbucket, migrate and drop Github.  If Github works well for you, stick with it.

In the interests of avoiding bias, I'd try to point you at more independent sites.  Atlassian and Atlassian partners do good writeups, but could be seen as less independent.  I quite like https://www.process.st/bitbucket-vs-github-version-control-software/ and https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/wordpress/github-vs-bitbucket as gentle starters (less technical), but I'd also ask your people which they might prefer.
