I'm updating a chef cookbook to remove copying the current home dir to the new version home dir in favor of having a generic home dir that will be symlinked (per Atlassian's strong recommendation). We will be upgrading from Bitbucket 6.4.2 to 7.3.1. We could make a copy of the home directory prior to upgrading just for rolling back in case something goes wrong (obviously that copy would not be to the Atlassian install directory). Does anyone know if a symlinked home directory will create any issues during an upgrade or during rollback? I'm new to this, so I want to make sure I cover my bases.
Hi Cindy,
Git doesn't deal well with symlinks, so we strongly advise against using symlinks with home directories.
