Unauthorized / Invalid Credentials

I can access the bit bucket on the cloud using my credentials successfully. However when I tried connecting via visual studio 2017 (latest bits) extension (version 1.37.95), I am getting following error message:

Unauthorized / Invalid Credentials

I know that my user name and password is correct. I have been using this extension for a while without any issues. But I have not connected with my repos in the cloud recently. This issue just started happening.

What troubleshooting mechanism can I follow to get out of this issue?

I ended up using App password feature for this and it worked.

What do you mean by an app password

You can create AppPassword in bitBucket settings, under AccessManagement, once there just give it a name and select the necessary permissions to the app, then, bitbucket shows you the password, is important to save it immediately, because you won't see it again.

Finally, you can go to vs bitbucket extension, use your user name and the generated password.

This helped for me; just wanted to point out that it requires bitbucket username; not email and that password.

As you're able to log into Bitbucket using your credentials, seems like the problem might be on the other side. Are you using this extension? If so, I'd recommend contacting them for help or recommendations on how to proceed, since they'll be able to investigate on their side why the connection is not being successful.
