Unable to clone a repository in BitBucket using Visual Studio Professional 2017

While trying to clone/push/pull a repository's branch from BitBucket using Visual Studio getting below error-

"Git failed with a fatal error.
HttpRequestException encountered.
An error occurred while sending the request.
cannot spawn /C/Program Files/Git/mingw64/libexec/git-core/git-askpass.exe: No error
could not read Password for 'https://**********@bitbucket.org': terminal prompts disabled"

[********** is my user name]

My Git version is:- 2.17.1.windows.2

Please suggest.

Hi Mona, welcome to the Community!

First, we'll need to find out where this error is coming from.

  • Have you tried cloning/pushing/pulling the repository using the command line directly? Do you get any error?
  • If you do, can you send us a screenshot of the error message you get?
  • If you don't, looks like this could be an issue with Visual Studio. Can you double check that the credentials it's offering are the right ones?

Hi Ana,

Thank you for the response. Using command line I was able to push/pull. But I needed to provide BitBucket credential for each pull/push request. So I just uninstalled Visual Studio and reinstalled it. Now it's working fine.
