Stash - cannot connect to external Oracle DB

J Smith November 4, 2012

I have tried to connect to an external Oracle DB in Stash versions 1.2.2, 1.2.4, and 1.3. Each time, I receive the ORA-12514 listener error. I am happy to see that there is documentation on this now, but the documentation does not help. The SID is the same as the Service Name in this case and I have tried various combinations of the Hostname, Port, and Service.

There is no such problem with other Atlassian products that we have used (Confluence and JIRA).

Why am I having so much difficulty with Stash? I have been stuck at this same problem since August.

Any assistance would be appreciated. I have tried the solution found at:

ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/STASHKB/ORA-12514%2C+TNS%3Alistener+does+not+currently+know+of+service+requested+in+connect+descriptor

I was experiencing the same problem but then I found out that Stash wants FULLY QUALIFIED service name.

In our case I originally tried QQ1Y_DED, but what Stash really wanted was QQ1Y_DED.PRD.LOCALDOMAIN.

Hi there,

I'm sorry that you're having trouble connecting Stash to Oracle. I would suggest raising a support request at https://support.atlassian.com – it will be the fastest path to resolving your issue, as our support engineers will get on board. It is always hard to do debugging of database connectivity issues over Answers.

Cheers,

Seb
