Setting up an Altassian server for LINUX developement

quintus smythe May 5, 2020

When setting up an Atlassian server for Linux development with particular focus on bitbucket I have the following question:

1. When setting up/building the server  the Atlassian Software on the server comes with a git version, correct?

2. Is there a git version with the Atlassian software that can be pushed out to the linux machines that will be access and using the Atlassian server as a repository or must the git software on the Linux boxes be provided / setup independent of the Atlassian server?

Thank you for your time

  1. No, Bitbucket uses whatever the local git version is on the server side
  2. Clients are independent of the server.  As long as the client has a version of git that can talk to Bitbucket, it'll work fine.  A lot of git versions are inter-compatible, so run your Bitbucket on whatever works best for you and even the really old clients your people may be using will probably be fine with it.
