SSH Access key enabled repo has stopped pull only requests

Andrew Killen June 5, 2018

When trying to do a git pull on a repo where there is a key setup for the server, it no longer works (since 20 mins ago).  Here is the error I get:

#git pull

*** Please tell me who you are.

Run

git config --global user.email "you@example.com"
git config --global user.name "Your Name"

to set your account's default identity.
Omit --global to set the identity only in this repository.

fatal: empty ident name (for <server@serverdetails.com>) not allowed

Of course, I can't add the user to the repo as then the read-only pull stops working via the key. I can't think what it could be?? it's effecting all keys on this repo, on all servers associated.  Other repos from bit bucket on the same server work just fine with pull only ssh keys

re-cloning the same repo on the same server works without issue.  might have to just rebuild the whole thing
